ToggleRajasthan’s City of Lakes to Braj – 650 Kilometres
Udaipur – the City of Lakes, known for its palaces, Lake Pichola and its position as one of Rajasthan’s most visited heritage cities – sits approximately 650-678 km from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. For the large number of pilgrims and tourists in Udaipur who are planning a Braj pilgrimage, the Udaipur to Vrindavan journey is a well-trodden route with multiple good transport options.
Vrindavan is where Lord Krishna spent His childhood – the town on the Yamuna River in Mathura district where the Banke Bihari Temple, ISKCON Vrindavan, Prem Mandir and dozens of other significant shrines create one of the most devotionally concentrated pilgrimage circuits in the Vaishnav tradition. For a Rajasthan-based pilgrim, Vrindavan is the closest major Vaishnav pilgrimage destination – significantly closer than Varanasi or Ayodhya.
I am Gurudutt, born and raised in Braj Bhoomi (the Mathura-Vrindavan region) and founder of Experience My India. Since 2018, our team has guided over 50,000 pilgrims through Vrindavan. This guide covers all route options with verified distances, taxi fares and the complete arrival guide for your first day in Vrindavan.

Route 1 – NH 27 + NE 4 (Fastest: 678 km, 11 hours)
Udaipur → Chittorgarh → NH 27 → NE 4 (New Delhi-Mumbai Expressway) → Kota → Agra → Mathura → Vrindavan
| Detail | Information |

Route 2 – NH 48 (663 km, 12.5-13 hours)

Udaipur → Bhilwara → NH 48 → Agra-Jaipur Road → Agra → Mathura → Vrindavan

Shortest road distance option – approximately 22 km shorter than Route 1. Slightly slower due to road quality variation on some Agra-Jaipur Road sections.
Experience My India’s road recommendation: Route 1 via NH 27 + NE 4 for time efficiency; Route 3 for shortest distance. Both arrive in Vrindavan in approximately 11-11.5 hours. Call +91-7302265809 for cab booking on either route.

Round-trip note: A round-trip from Udaipur to Vrindavan and back typically costs 1.7-1.8x the one-way fare (the driver needs to return). For a 2-3 day stay, this is usually more cost-effective than booking two separate one-way cabs. View Our 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package

Last Mile: Mathura Junction to Vrindavan
Mathura Junction is where most trains from Udaipur arrive – and it is 14 km from Vrindavan. This is the last mile that most travel guides skip.
| Mode | Distance | Travel Time | Cost |
| Auto-rickshaw | 14 km | 25-35 min | ₹150 – ₹250 |
| Shared e-rickshaw / tempo | 14 km | 35-45 min | ₹30 – ₹50 per person |
| Pre-booked private cab | 14 km | 20-25 min | ₹300 – ₹500 |

Vande Bharat from Udaipur – The Honest Answer
This is one of the most frequently asked questions for Udaipur-based pilgrims planning a Vrindavan trip.
As of May 2026: Vande Bharat services are expanding across India but the Udaipur-Mathura/Vrindavan corridor’s Vande Bharat availability should be verified on IRCTC before planning. Several Vande Bharat trains operate from Udaipur to various destinations – whether any of these pass through or terminate near Mathura changes with schedule updates.
For Vrindavan specifically: Vrindavan does not have its own train station – all trains terminate at Mathura Junction (14 km away) or Vrindavan Town station (a smaller local station). A Vande Bharat to Mathura from Udaipur, if available, would be the fastest train option at 3-4 hours.
What to do: Check IRCTC (irctc.co.in) for the most current Udaipur → Mathura Vande Bharat availability. Experience My India updates train route advice for all incoming Udaipur groups. Call +91-7302265809 for current train recommendations.

Ground Truth – What Nobody Tells You About This Journey
After receiving thousands of pilgrims from Rajasthan since 2018, here is what Experience My India knows about the Udaipur to Vrindavan journey:
Route 1 (NH 27 + NE 4) is faster by time but Route 3 (NH 48 + Agra Road) is shorter by distance – and they arrive at the same place. Most cab aggregators show Route 2 (via Jaipur on NH 48) because Jaipur is a major waypoint – but Jaipur adds distance and town traffic. Route 1 via the NE 4 expressway delivers the best time efficiency for a direct Vrindavan trip.
All major Vrindavan temples close from 12:00 PM to 5:00-5:30 PM. Pilgrims who take a morning cab from Udaipur (7:00 AM departure) and arrive in Vrindavan at 6:00-7:00 PM are timing it correctly for the evening session at Banke Bihari. Pilgrims who leave Udaipur at noon and arrive at 11:00 PM are missing both sessions of the first day entirely.
Mathura Junction and Vrindavan are not in the same town. They are 14 km apart. Many first-time visitors from Rajasthan arrive at Mathura Junction assuming they are “in Vrindavan” – only to find they still have a 25-35 minute auto ride ahead. Pre-booking the Mathura pickup removes this confusion after a 10-hour train journey.
Weekend Vrindavan visits from Rajasthan are significantly more crowded than weekday visits. Many Rajasthan-based pilgrims and tourists visit Vrindavan on weekends – the temples, particularly Banke Bihari, are significantly more crowded on Saturday and Sunday. For a calmer darshan experience, plan a Tuesday to Thursday visit.

All temples close from noon to 5:00-5:30 PM. Experience My India sequences the Vrindavan circuit around temple opening windows. Call +91-7302265809.
A same-day return trip from Udaipur to Vrindavan is not practical – the 11-hour one-way road journey means departing before 5:00 AM to reach Vrindavan by 4:00 PM and then leaving immediately for a midnight return. A minimum of 1 overnight stay in Vrindavan is needed for a meaningful visit. Most pilgrims from Udaipur plan 2 nights in Vrindavan (covering Mathura on Day 1 evening, full Vrindavan on Day 2 and the Braj outer circuit on Day 3). Experience My India designs this exactly.
